I am seriously considering returning to buying my meat from a family butcher rather than the supermarket - but where are they? So many have disappeared from our high street, and were we bothered?
Probably not because the supermarkets are so much cheaper but local councils must carry some of the responsibility for their demise. Perhaps town planners will bear this in mind next time Tesco etc try to muscle in on areas where the greengrocer, fishmonger, butcher and baker still survive

She was obviously in a terrible panic and did what she could to get the fox off, including kicking it
Eventually it did let go but the baby was found with quite serious injuries
A neighbor, who declined to be identified, recalled the horrific screams she heard to The Telegraph
A fox attacked my baby, a fox attacked my baby
doctors were able to re-attached his severed finger in an 'extremely difficult' three-hour surgery
The baby also suffered puncture wounds to his face, but is expected to recover from his injuries
The attack has added fuel to an ongoing debate on how to control the fox population in London,
Foxes will come closer to a house if there are food sources. Then they can become quite bold, but they usually do back off and run away when there's people around
Meanwhile, area residents are urged to be mindful when leaving doors or windows open, and to keep their garbage tied up and placed in secure bins
In June 2010, twin girls Isabella and Lola Koupparis were mauled by a fox in their Hackney, East London home. The girls were nine-months-old and were also sleeping inside their home at the time of the attack and suffered arm and face injuries

Family of victim in gun range death defends outing
DAVID WARREN
Associated Press= MIDLOTHIAN, Texas (AP) — The man killed alongside a former Navy SEAL sniper at a Texas shooting range was helping his friend work with a troubled war veteran, and the outing was intended to be a "therapeutic situation," his relatives said Friday following his funeral.
Hundreds of people attended the service for Chad Littlefield, who along with his friend, "American Sniper" author Chris Kyle, was fatally shot last weekend. Authorities have said the former Marine they were trying to help suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and turned on the two men.
Littlefield's father-in-law, Tom Montgomery, defended the notion of helping troubled war veterans through target practice. He said Kyle regularly took veterans to the shooting range, and that Littlefield often assisted in efforts to help veterans.
"As a gesture of friendship, that's the only way I can describe it, he was asked to help Chris in this endeavor," Montgomery said. "I think this was a form of relaxation, a form of therapy."
Police say the suspect, 25-year-old Eddie Ray Routh, shot Littlefield and Kyle multiple times on Feb. 2 before fleeing. He later told his sister and brother-in-law that the men "were out shooting target practice and he couldn't trust them so he killed them before they could kill him," according to a search warrant. Routh is jailed on $3 million bond.
The men could not have anticipated Routh's actions, Montgomery said, adding that Littlefield enjoyed assisting Kyle with his nonprofit, which provided in-home fitness equipment to physically and emotionally wounded veterans.
Kyle, 38, established the nonprofit after leaving the Navy in 2009 following four tours of duty in Iraq, where he earned a reputation as one of the military's most lethal snipers. His wartime account, "American Sniper," was a best-seller.
"I have to believe that Chris Kyle with all his military background and specialized training was quite capable of reading people," Montgomery said.
Hundreds turned out Friday to honor Littlefield at First Baptist Church in Midlothian, near Dallas. Although Littlefield wasn't a member of the military, Patriot Guard Riders led the procession as a tribute to his efforts on behalf of veterans and formed a ring around the parking lot and church entrance. Hundreds of other people lined local streets to watch the procession pass.
Littlefield, who had a 7-year-old daughter with his wife Leanne, was remembered for his bedrock character.
"He was a man of deep commitment and character," the Rev. Kenny Lowman said during the service.
Montgomery said Littlefield and Kyle bonded a few years ago as soccer dads watching their children play, and that their families occasionally vacationed together.
"People develop these ethics over a lifetime," he said. "I think Chad was the type of person who developed them and did what was right, even when no one was looking."
A memorial service for Kyle is planned for Monday at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

My youngest daughter was called baby until her third birthday. It started with introducing her to her four year old elder brother with Look at your beautiful baby sister! She was always called Baby from then on. She thought her name was baby when she went to preschool. The teacher took me aside to ask why she would not respond to being called by her actual name - do you call her something else? She soon learned her real name though. I still use Baby when I am feeling particularly affectionate. So sue me!

ok so it would no longer be in the UK right

As passions risk becoming inflamed again and the old battle positions resume in Britain's media as well as Zimbabwe's, the danger is that long-term trends get overlooked. Good news has just emerged from Britain's last former African colony that shows that the land occupations and evictions of white farmers by angry veterans of the liberation struggle that was the big Zimbabwe story of a decade ago did not destroy the country's agriculture, as so often claimed. Far from it, production is now back to the levels of the late 1990s and more land is under cultivation than was worked by white farmers.
Which begs the question why 'evictions of white farmers by angry veterans of the liberation struggle' was ever enacted bearing in mind that previous agreements specifically prohibited evicting 'whites'.
No mention of the extreme luxury that Mugabe was living in while his people were being starved and killed.
The man is a disgusting monster and the sooner he passes beyond, the better. Of course, Morgan Tsvangirai may be worse.
Such is the curse of Africa.

@Chacal - A referendum if he wins the election goes without saying. Bit difficult to call one from the backbenches' which is where he'll end up the day after losing it.It's difficult to pin point exactly where he stands on Europe, or anything for that matter.I'd guess he's pro, but a politician with principles and beliefs as changeable as the wind makes it impossible to say with certainty.
Major at least had the balls to put his neck on the line and confront 'the bastards.'
Doubt Dave would ever be so daring.

@ThisWorld79 - And since then they've tanked the economy, allowed the richest to become vastly richer while making the majority a great deal poorer, they've turned people against each other, engendered hate against the vulnerable, the sick, the different, they've brought about the privatisation of the NHS, they've turned the clock back in education (the price for which we have yet to pay), they have brought about the demise of the high street, they've allowed tax havens to flourish, they've ensured continued welfare payments for the very rich (cap) and they are about to put us into triple dip, lose our AAA rating and all without a manifesto or consent

British jobs, British houses and British way of life for British people. Mrs Duffy of Rochdale and Mrs Bull of Boston - god bless you.
Too many people at the top are too far removed from what is actually happening regards the areas which have seen communities plagued with problems due to unchecked immigration.
Strange how none of these parties ever target the unscrupulous employers who employ foreign workers because they're easier to exploit and rip off
Free movement of people HAS to reform or Britain will fall into anarchy. The people have had enough. Immigration is why euroscepticism is so high. I know what is in Britains strategic interest from the viewpoint of an average ordinary person.
Labour have totally stabbed the working class in the back, witness immigration and the social and other problems that has caused - gerrymandering, extra strain on the NHS, housing, jobs, transport - the list is endless, even terrorism is a direct result of Labour's immigration policies
his nightly attempt to smuggle me in the small hours well past 5 am now actually not good for a stress disorder

...bloody hell!
We've really not come that far have we - for all of our perceived freedoms to argue and demonstrate and object - we're still fucked-over daily by the ruling classes, the establishment, the rich, the powerful, the elite and the lawyers.
...and its still the ordinary, 'little' people who spill their blood, sacrifice their health, lose their wealth and sanity to support the likes of these people who tell us that they rule in our name. Nothing has really changed.
Never have I yearned so much for a revolution - something to take power from the likes of these people and force them to account for their actions

Here's an interesting article:
The West has no moral high ground; a short reading of their colonial past can easily show us that - France's colonial legacy in North Africa reads like a state terrorism handbook. If the West was really concerned about the destruction of ancient historical heritage, limb amputations and executions then there is a state that dwarfs anything that the Malian rebels have partaken in, that state is Saudi Arabia.Furthermore, the ideology and literalist approach of the Malian rebels has its foundations in and is propagated via the Saudi state and the Wahabi/Salafi movement. The West enjoys a very good relationship with Saudi Arabia. Western leaders can often be seen hugging and kissing Saudi leaders, and enjoying the hospitality of the Saudi state, never mentioning the destruction of heritage, the treatment of foreign workers, the executions, the amputations and not to forget, the favourite subject of the West when they wish to engage in wars - the treatment of women. Our leaders are too busy flogging weapons to Saudi Arabia rather than moralising with them.If this battle is not for ideological reasons then what is it for? The answer, however cynical, is simple. Resources. Mali is rich in resources, from uranium to gold. It is an African kingdom that has historically been known for its mass of gold reserves and more recently the possibility of further oil and uranium exploration. Had the rebels expressed their love of the West and outlined their intentions to open up Mali's market to foreign companies (allowing the leaching of resources), we would not have heard a word of objection from France, the United Kingdom or any other power. Instead, we are greeted with the scramble to take a big slice out of this African cake. Everyone is rushing to fight 'terrorists' in Mali. France is ensuring energy security. There should be no disruption in the flow of uranium through France's nuclear reactors. The so-called rebels are bad for business.

Despite his well known Mental Health problems, Churchill at least was more 'stable' than Thatcher, Blair and Cameron. The latter is more dangerous as he was not awarded an overwhelming majority...and unfortunately for the Country he is maniacally desperate to ensure he is given, what he perceives, is rightly his. Perhaps those men in coats...err suits might help to put the Country at ease???

This article misses the point of the interview.
At some point, Lance was either going to have to confess, take the fifth amendment or perjure himself.
He was already being sued by Floyd Landis in a whistle-blower lawsuit. With the USADA report and all of its proof, when Lance was deposed in that lawsuit, if he lied, they would have had enough evidence to prosecute him criminally for perjury and he would be looking at prison time. Or he could take the 5th amendment and he would lose the lawsuit. Or he could tell the truth there for the first time.
Instead, he chose to tell the truth to not so hard-hitting faux journalist Oprah for the first time.
Yes the lawsuits are coming, but those lawsuits were always coming. He was always going to lose his fortune (or at least the part that has not been hidden from creditors), but this way he avoids the prospect of prison time.
It was never about coming clean so he could race again or rebuild his reputation. It's always been about staying out of the crowbar hotel
